Obituary

Memorial services for Kay Wendell (Kasey) Nelson, 78, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday May 28, 2014 at the Mt. Zion Lodge A.F. & A.M. #327, West Plains.

Mr. Nelson died 5:50 p.m., Friday, May 23,2014 at the Ozarks Medical Center. He was born May 28, 1935 at Chariton, Iowa to Charles Wendell Nelson and Clara Leona Anderson Nelson.  He attended the St. Louis College of Pharmacy, where he met Virgie Huffman, and they were married at Bismarck, Missouri on December 28, 1955. Kasey was a veteran having served in the United States Navy as a hospital corpsman. He worked for Rexall Drug in the Chicago area for a time, before his career and retirement, from sales with General Electric, in the lighting division. That career took him to Minnesota and Colorado, before settling back in the Ozarks. He enjoyed travel, fishing, water skiing, bowling, golf, horseback riding, leather and woodworking, and coaching his wife's softball team. Mostly, he loved his family, and was a devoted husband and father. He was proud to be a Mason for over fifty years and a member of the York Rite, Scottish Rite and the Shrine. He was Past Master of Mt. Zion Lodge A.F. & A.M. #327, West Plains, and Past Rajah of the local HOST Shrine Club.    Mr. Nelson was a member of the Methodist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Virgie Nelson, of the family home; three daughters, Sue L. DuClos, husband, Rick, West Plains, Missouri, Teri Covington, husband, Steve, Moody, Missouri and Marilyn Bartlett, husband, Lee, Parker, Colorado; three grandchildren, Neysa Simpson, husband, Scott, Travis Bartlett and Michelle Bartlett; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Simpson and Jared Simpson; and one brother, Charles Vernon Nelson, wife, Carol, Salem, Arkansas and their daughter, Connie, Little Rock, Arkansas. His parents preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Zion A.F. & A.M., #327 Building Fund and left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
