A Celebration of Life service for Mary Ellen Wheeler, 92, West Plains, Missouri, will be at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, February 18, 2012, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Mrs. Wheeler died at 2:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at West Vue Nursing Center, West Plains, Missouri.  She was born November 13, 1919, in Howell County, Missouri, to James A. and Marcia VanVleck Porter.  She graduated from West Plains High School with the Class of 1936.  She was a teacher and was active in the Daughters of The American Revolution and the South Central Missouri Genealogical Society.  Mrs. Wheeler enjoyed her flowers and gave starter plants to many in the community.

She is survived by her son, Wayne Wheeler, wife, Linda, Georgetown, Texas; four grandchildren, Kendra Wheeler, Dallas, Texas, Jamie Wheeler, Madison, Wisconsin, John Wheeler, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Porter Wheeler, Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

Her parents, one son, James Q. Wheeler, one grandson, Patrick Wheeler, two brothers, S. E. "Mike" Porter and James Quincy Porter, precede her in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to the West Plains Public Library Foundation and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
