Obituary

Funeral services for Roy Dain Altermatt, 85, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 9, 2026, in the Rose Chapel at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

Mr. Altermatt passed away Monday, October 5, 2026 at his home.

He was born March 7, 1941, at Twin Bridges, Missouri, to Wallace Altermatt and Christeen Thornton Altermatt. On December 15, 1962, he was married at West Plains, to Wanda Collins. Mr. Altermatt was a veteran, having served with the United States Army from June, 1960 to June, 1962. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from University of Missouri, Rolla. Mr. Altermatt worked in engineering for the Missouri Department of Transportation for 33 years, having retired April 1, 1998. Roy loved people, was a very patient and easy going person. He was a good storyteller, an excellent cook and enjoyed life. Farming was his passion and he enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing, singing and playing guitar with the Church Choir. He loved spending time with family and long talks with the love of his life, Wanda. Mr. Altermatt was a member of Calvary General Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Altermatt, of the family home; two children, Tawnya Rothermich and husband, Rick, Pomona, Missouri and Shawn Altermatt and wife, Corena, Rolla, Missouri; two grandchildren, Gavin Dain and fiancé, Erica, St. Louis, Missouri and Kianna Burtrum and husband, Bo, Mountain Grove, Missouri; one brother, Doyle Altermatt, Mountain View, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents and one brother, Dallas Altermatt preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., Friday, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary General Baptist Church, and may be left at or mailed to Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, 211 W. Main St., West Plains, Missouri.
