Funeral services for Roy D. "Sonny" Collins, 66, Pomona, Missouri, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at the Langston Street Chapel of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mr. Collins died at 11:39 a.m., Thursday, March 7, 2013, at West Vue Nursing Center.
He was born May 31, 1946, at West Plains, Missouri, to Claude Arvil and Maggie Hatfield Collins. Sonny was a well-known painter and carpenter in West Plains, Pomona and Kansas City areas. He had many friends and was loved by all. Sonny had polio at the age of seven, but he never let that hold him back from doing his work or enjoying life. He loved going to Conley's Quick Stop every morning to drink coffee and visit with his friends and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Sonny was married to Cheryl Marie Chapman and to this union a daughter, Ashley Marie was born, who was the joy of his life.
He is survived by his daughter, Ashley Marie; step-daughters, Amanda Chapman Venn and Christina Chapman; special companion, Cheryl Marie; two sisters, Wanda Altermatt, husband, Roy and Becky Watkins; nieces and nephews, Randy Crow, Ben Hicks, Jr. Debbie Gray, Robin Siemans, Tony Watkins, Tanya Rothermich and Shawn Altermatt; sister-in-law, Marianna Hicks; special friends Brandon Parrish and J. J. Johnson; Wendy Collins; and several grandchildren.
His parents, brother, Bob Collins, Sisters, June Crow, Goldie Hicks, Lois Hicks and special brothers-in-law, Bill and Ben Hicks, who were like fathers to Sonny, precede him in death.
Visitation services will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 11, 2013, at Langston Street Chapel of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Robertson-Drago Funeral Home for a headstone.
