Funeral services for Lawrence Kay Nevils, 89, Owasso, Oklahoma, formerly of West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 21, 2026, in the Rose Chapel at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Lawrence passed away March 15, 2026. He was born November 1, 1936, in Cass County, Missouri, to Elmer and Carabel (Gibson) Nevils. He married Barbara (Adams) Nevils on March 31, 1956 in Dallas County, Missouri. As a young man, he felt called by God to teach and preach, and he faithfully served in both vocations in Tennessee, Alaska, and Missouri. Throughout his life he enjoyed laughing and sharing stories of these adventures and the many people he fondly remembered. Mr. Nevils retired as principal of Junction Hill Elementary School in 1993 and later retired as pastor of Chapel Hill Baptist Church. An avid reader, Lawrence would often read histories, westerns, and the Bible. He worked to build his life on the principles in those pages, of faith, service, and integrity.
He is survived by four children, Twylia (Ernie) Gibson of Tennessee, Ruth Nevils, M.D., of Missouri, Mary Dudley of Oklahoma, and John (Tammy) Nevils of Idaho; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Neil, his brother, Elwyn (Butch), and his wife.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery.
