Jerry & my family grew up together. My brother Berylee Martin & I and Jerry, Richard & David were always at each others houses raiding the refrigerators, playing war games or hitting golf balls where ever we could and hanging out in the tree house we all built. Memories is all we have & I have many of Jerry. When I got to West Plains I was fortunate to get to see & get to talk with Jerry occasionally . We always shared memories of growing up & had many a laugh and if you know Jerry you would never forget his laugh. He was one of the good guys & I’ll miss him & his laughter.

Jerry, thanks for the email on the funeral home website after Jerry died. I hadn’t looked at it until a couple of days ago. You mentioned refrigerators it reminded me of an event when I was about 4 years old. Steve Morris and I were exploring around the neighborhood one morning and ended up in your back yard. You boys were at school and you parents were at work, but we went up the back stairs and the door wasn’t locked so we went in. We opened the refrigerator and there was a plate of fried chicken. We both ate some, closed the door and went back home. Around lunch time, Mother asked me what I wanted for lunch; I said I wasn’t hungry because I had eaten at the Martin’s. Mother was horified and said she knew you all weren’t home and what I had done was stealing. I kept saying it wasn’t stealing because Mrs. Martin liked for me to eat her food. Anyway, she called your mother that night and I had to apologize; your mother went along, but I knew in my heart that she really didn’t care. I remember those days with foldness too. Hope you and the rest of your family are doing well.

Allison, Billie Kay and I can’t be with you today but I think you know we are there in spirit. Last summer when we saw Jerry in Springfield we began to understand the seriousness of his condition. This past November when he came to the breakfast with David, it was a real effort on his part. I think you could tell how much Billie Kay cared for Jerry. He was one of our first friends at age 6 and remained in our thoughts for all of the years we shared together. Hopefully all is well with you and we see you when we get home in the spring.
