Floyd Lee Simpson

Funeral services for Floyd Lee Simpson, 87, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 5, 2013, in the Rose Chapel at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

Mr. Simpson passed from this life July 30, 2013.

He was born May 28, 1926 to Walter Richard and Mary Elizabeth (Bolin) Simpson in Shannon County, Missouri.   Floyd grew up on the banks of the Current River where he spent happy childhood days.  He, along with his beloved brothers and sisters, were educated at the Button Rock School.    On July 2, 1947, Floyd married Reva V. Honeycutt a union that spanned just over sixty-six years.   To this union three daughters were born; Cheri Lea (Simpson) Beavers, Dianna Lynn (Simpson) Weaver, and Debra Lou Simpson.   Floyd was employed by the Rawlings Manufacturing Company for nearly 20 years.    Some of his career accomplishments included several design concepts for baseball gloves that are still marketed today.   After leaving Rawlings, he continued working as a consultant in the sporting goods industry.   Floyd ended his career in manufacturing working for Trojan Luggage and HD Lee.  After retirement, Floyd enjoyed many hobbies that included camping with his wife, hunting with sons-in-law and grandsons-in-law, fishing with friends, working in his woodshop, and gardening.   He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.   In addition, Floyd was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star, fraternal organizations to which he was a devoted servant for more than fifty years.    Floyd was a man of deep faith and conviction.  He gave his heart to Jesus as a young adult, and was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Willow Springs, Missouri.  He served as Sunday School teacher, President of the Brotherhood, and other positions of leadership within the church.

Floyd is survived by his wife, Reva, of the family home; his daughters, Cheri Beavers and husband, Richard, Dianna Weaver and husband Michael, and Debra Simpson all of West Plains, Missouri; granddaughters Erica Walker and husband Kyle, Sara Dockins and husband Michael, and Tara Weaver, his great-grandchildren Gracelyn and Brett Walker; brother-in-law, Ralph Honeycutt and wife, Vina; sisters-in-law, Ethel Simpson, Darlene Forte, and Rayma Simpson; a host of nieces, nephews, and many special friends.

Floyd took great joy in cherished times spent with his family.   He was happiest when providing opportunities for his loved ones to be together making memories.   He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and selfless provider.   His passing leaves a void in our hearts that can never be filled, but we rejoice in the man he was and celebrate his Heavenly homecoming.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Pete, Hubert, Earl, Carl, Herbert, Doyle, Melvin, and Claudie Ray, his sisters: Opal Roberts, Michal Sconce, Christine Poston, Lenora Lynch and Nadine Simpson, one grandson, Ryan Michael Weaver, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Everett and Anna Honeycutt,  sisters-in-law: Mildred Lockman-Cooley and Edna Martin, and brothers-in-law:  Kenneth  and Dale Honeycutt.

A Masonic rites ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m., Sunday, followed by visitation from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m., at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.  Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Food Pantry or American Heart Association, and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
