Maria, Stan, Lesa, and family: we are heartbroken about Dean’s passing. He was so good to us when we started as green young people in Summersville, MO. We loved joining him at basketball games and coaching activities. He was a true friend to Marvin and I and our girls. Maria, Stan, and Lesa, we will pray for comforting blessings for you. We know that Dean is walking tall in Heaven and is eating sugar cookies! The great memories that we have of all of you are so precious to us! You have all been a blessing to us! Thank you for your friendship and love. God bless all of you. Love, Marvin & Adria Vestal, Wendy & Julie

Saying goodbye to “The President” won’t be easy.
Dean was beloved by all and he left kindness and laughter wherever he went. And as Adria mentioned, maybe a few sugar cookie crumbs as well.
I’ve never heard a negative word said about Dean and he must have known a million people.
Dean was one-of-a-kind and we were all blessed to know him and call him friend.
    With loving memories,

Sweet Maria, I am so sad as I hear about the passing of my buddy, Deano. You allowed Deano and I to travel and watch many ball games together. We grew close together despite our age difference. He was a special friend and a special guy and family just like you. May you feel God’s presence during this time. We know Dean is having one heck of a time right with His Savior and friends that has gone before him. Mary and I send our condolences and will be praying for you. Love you , Bruce

Stan, Sorry buddy for your loss. Your dad was one special person to me and will be sorely missed. Keep taking good care of mom and keep sharing your memories of your dad with her as time goes by. our condolences and prayers to you as well. Love, Bruce

All of us at The Fish Shack have been missing Dean for a while as we had gotten use to seeing him almost everyday. He will be missed by all who knew him. A true gentleman if there ever was one and a fine upstanding person. If West Plains ever has a Mount Rushmore Dean Smith would surely be on it. Thank you for making me a better person.

Sending prayers and condolence to Mr. Smith’s family. We met him back in 1983 when he was the director of Texas County Family Services. He was a kind hearted man who helped our family so much. I ran into him at NHC and reminded him we had met before and what it had meant to our family. It was a blessed encounter in 1983 and we will never forget him and the blessing that came from that meeting. He will be remembered as a very good man who helped many. God bless his family with precious memories now until they meet again.

Maria and Stan, as sad as it is to lose a loving husband and father we can rejoice in the fact that Dean is now at Home, and we will all be reunited with him and our Savior in the Kingdom soon…

    Maria,
I was so sad to learn that my “Hero” had passed. He was such an inspiration as I would see him on Sundays, struggling to walk, but he still had a smile on his face.

However, I am rejoicing with you that Dean is now in the presence of our Lord that he loved so much.

Dale and I have been asking God to be with you and bless you with His promises to never leave you, to comfort you and give you strength.

    Love, Vivian Brake
