Mary Jo Easley departed this life on October 24, 2022, at the age of ninety-six years. She was born November 4, 1925, in Hornersville, Missouri, to Charles Edward and Viola Amanda Zumwalt Montgomery, cotton farmers in the Missouri bootheel.
She married Arthur Hunter Easley on February 2, 1946. She often spoke of their first encounter over rows of cotton when she looked into the most beautiful blue eyes she had ever seen as he flashed his movie star smile and won her heart. After marriage they settled in Hocomo, Missouri, to raise their family. She had a romantic flare about her and told stories of her childhood in a fashion befitting the big screen. She spoke of how movies gave her a view into a world outside of her simple farm girl life. She had the hands of an artist and created beautiful quilts and clothes for her family. She had an amazing eye for color and never really let anyone acknowledge her talent, seeing it as something of necessity. She never understood the impact her legacy had on this world and would tell you that she was not made for this time, and she was right. She was made for a time when Mommas sewed out of necessity, gardened to keep their families fed, and she devoted her whole life to that alone. She was sassy, fancy, direct, thrifty, inventive, artistic, and loving in her own way. She will be greatly missed, and though hard for her to believe, forever loved just as she was.
She is survived by her children, Barbara Jane McTague of Springfield, Missouri, David Warren Easley and wife, Linda, of Gower, Missouri, and Debra Ann Baughman of West Plains, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, all eight of her brothers and sisters, her husband, son-in-law, Jerry McTague, son-in-law, David Baughman, and great-great-grandchild, Noah Kay Jacobs.
A private graveside service will be held for the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Brandsville Church of God and may be left at or mailed to Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, 211 West Main, West Plains, MO 65775.

She enjoyed being a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. She introduced many kids to Jesus and wasn’t afraid to smack them if they got out of line. She loved loading up a bunch of area kids and taking them to bible camp during the summer. She took her calling to the Lord very seriously and was a witness to many. There was always room at her table for one more because her door was always open to share a cup of coffee or a cold coke. Marie loved playing a competitive game of softball with her Sawyer family. Carnie Dwain (Darr) Hammond, 86, went home to meet the Lord on September 29, 2022. Darr was born September 28, 1936 in Viola, Arkansas to Carnie A. Hammond and Rozella Cawvey Hammond. Darr graduated high school in Flint, Michigan after which he served four years in the United States Air Force, stationed at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska. Darr worked for 28 years at the Detroit Edison coal fired Power Plant and Fermi Nuclear Power Plant. He worked in numerous supervisory capacities including weld inspector and as a metallurgist. His expertise in the field of welding was frequently commissioned by large industrial corporations throughout the U.S. and Canada. Darr and Sharon retired in 1993 to West Plains, Missouri.
While he was accomplished in his trade, his true passion was being an all-American cowboy. Born and raised on a farm in Arkansas, his father gave him his first horse “Lulu” at the age of 5 and from then on, the two were inseparable. He would ride it to and from the one room schoolhouse he attended in Salem, Arkansas until the 8th grade. At the young age of 15 he entered his first rodeo and over the course of 6 decades, competed in all 5 major events in almost every state in the country. In 1958 he became the first interstate Champion Calf Roper of Alaska, before it was even a state. In the 1960’s he was the Midwest Cowboy Association (MCA) Champion Saddle Bronc Rider for 4 years in a row, the MCA All-Around Champion for two years, and president of the MCA for several years. After his retirement to Missouri, he went on to compete in team roping events until the age of 80. The relentless tenacity of his later years has been said by many to be an inspiration to amateur and seasoned cowboys throughout his career.
In 1987 he acquired his commercial and private pilot’s license. He enjoyed flying for the next 30 years and recounted his first solo flight as the most thrilling highlight of his life. He often quoted his favorite poem, “High Flight”:
“Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth; Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.”
-John Magee

The story told to the family is that the two of them met at a party that Audrey was attending with Robert’s brother. She introduced herself to Robert, and he said, “Who cares?”. The rest is history. Their union produced three beautiful children, Bryan, Bobby “Bink”, and Rebecca. They enjoyed nearly 30 love-filled years together before Audrey lost her courageous battle against colon cancer in 1999. Robert and Audrey made the bold decision to move their family from San Diego to Peace Valley, Missouri in 1980 and build their family farm. Mr. Gammill was the inaugural recipient of this award.
Mr. Gammill’s wife, Peggy, passed away on January 4, 1998. On September 24, 2005, he married Joan McCann at First Baptist Church in West Plains. Having both lost their spouses many years prior, their marriage and companionship was a blessing to each of them.
Mr. Gammill was a member of First Baptist Church, West Plains, and served in several volunteer capacities over his many years of attendance. He served on the Board of West Vue Nursing Home for many years, and following his retirement, volunteered at West Vue alongside his wife, Joan.
Many local charitable organizations around town knew Mr. Gammill for his quiet philanthropic efforts supporting their charities. The Family Foundation he established has provided dozens of scholarships to the nursing program at MSU-West Plains over the years. In 2022, Mr. Gammill qualified to receive the Sterling Medallion, one of the highest levels of recognition within the Founder’s Club at Missouri State University, in recognition of his many years of support to the University.
Mr. Gammill also received the Champions for Heroes and Cornerstone Society Awards from Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in recognition of his extraordinary generosity and support of veterans in 2021. One of Mr. Gammill’s brothers and a brother-in-law were veterans.
After retirement in 2004 and remarriage in 2005, Mr. Gammill enjoyed working on his property with his tractor. He became quite adept at moving boulders, at the direction of Joan, for their various landscaping projects. He also dug a pond and stocked it with catfish. He loved his daily chore of going to feed the fish and relished calling them to supper. In the early years of their marriage, Ken and Joan enjoyed traveling, volunteering, and working together in their yard. He loved watching wildlife on his property and would put corn out for the deer each night. One of the hobbies he most enjoyed in retirement was playing dominoes, and he became well-known as the resident expert. He and Joan spent many hours playing the game, often including any and all comers who were willing to join him at the game table!

Matias, our precious gift from God, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 23rd.
Tias, as he was called by those who loved him, was born March 18, 2021, to his wonderful mother, Zoe Parrish, and two amazing fathers, Tyler Parrish and Ethan Hoyer. He had one sister Bella Parrish, and a brother Micah Parrish, and an unborn sister on the way. He has joined heaven with an angel sibling that preceded him in passing. If love could have saved him, he would have lived forever. His laughter and smiles, ten fingers and toes, blonde hair and vibrant blue eyes, could fill the darkest of days with the most sunshine in your life. His innocence and wonderment of the world around him brought such joy and happiness to his family. Tias was proof, every day, of God’s love. He loved SpongeBob, anything with wheels no matter the size, and all kinds of foods, especially toast. And when it came to music, he was dancing non-stop. He also loved his puppies, and to be on the go. Tias had a massive sense of adventure to be so young.
